Abstract
An unusual new elasmosaur is described from postcranial elements preserved in a large concretionary mass from the Conway Formation(Haumurian; Masstrichtian) of the Waipara River area, North Canterbury,South Island, New Zealand. The specimen, representing the youngest plesiosaur described so far from New Zealand, is distinguished by characters of the pectoral girdle, particularly the elongate, rod-like ventral process and the symphyseal fossa on the fused coracoids.
