Abstract
Collection number:MGUH 2003-1678
Determined to Plesiosaurus sp. [Not my determination]
The cast of the tooth derives from the Uptonia jamesoni- ammonite horizon of Rævekløft, Cape Stewart, Jameson Land, East Greenland, and was collected in 1924 by Th. Brønning Pedersen. The fact that it derives from the Uptonia jamesoni-horizon gives it a Pliensbachian age.
The tooth is approximately four centimeters long, and one cm wide at the base. There are thin ridges running longitudinally along the tooth. I have also be attached a picture of the tooth, for better understanding [20031678.jpg]. It was my first attempt at photographing something using ammonium chloride coating, and I am not sure that it worked out completely well.
Comment: Mark Evans:
quite a reasonable-sized tooth froma reasonable-sized "pliosaur-add-
an-ending-of-your-choice". Wonder if the missing end is broken or worn. Ridges are nice and strong and seem to disappear labially,
shades of Liopleurodon?, and Arthur says Polytychodon with a glint in his eye, but also Leptocleidus, but it would have to be a large one (Let me see, a large L Jurassic Leptocleidid, that'll be a Rhomaleosaur, then). My observations on "P" macrocephalus are that the teeth are smooth labially, but I can't remember what the spacing of striae is compared to this.
